Hi! My name is Leini and I’m studying at UCN. My line of study is Tourism and Hospitality Management, my specialization subject being Tourism.
On the second semester in this study programme each student is to have a three-month-internship. In order to get familiar with the tourism industry, I chose to apply for an internship position at a tour operator Peter Pan Maailma in Helsinki, Finland. I was supported by the Obelske Family Fund and Leonardo EU programme for my stay as a full-time intern.
The position included all general travel agency tasks. As Peter Pan Maailma is a relatively small I was treated as the other employees. My tasks at the travel agency included bookings, billings, responding to customer feedback and questions, selling company products and handling most of the customer relations in general.
Besides this, I was given a variety of other tasks related to trip planning, providing customers with the essential information about their upcoming trip and as above mentioned, updating the online services.
I am indeed satisfied with the experience I had as an intern, this not least thanks to the company culture and the responsibilities I was trusted to overtake. Moreover, I learnt a great deal of office routines and most of all; I familiarized with the concept and culture of a tourism company and enjoyed going to work each morning!
