I am Lithuanian girl studying as a full-time student in UCN, Aalborg, Denmark. Studies abroad have always been one of my dreams, and I am really happy that it finally came true. My chosen study field is hospitality and tourism, therefore this is the fastest growing service sector and I am happy to be the part of it. I am sociable and talkative person that is why management is just for me.
It took me quite a long time to find a place for my internship, as at first I was trying to find the place in Denmark but I faced language barriers. However, homesick helped me to decide and to come back to Lithuania, to work as a trainee in one of the largest hotels chain all over the world – Best Western Hotels.
Very easily I became a part of the collective. I have been inspired to go to work as I knew that I am learning something new each day. My main and the most important responsibility have been tourists groups – I had to meet and check them in, arrange sort of things with the guides and to be in a service for the guests.
This also included all the things the receptionists do – receiving the calls, checking the rooms’ quality, currency exchange and etc.
I had to arrange the dinning and breakfast times for the groups as well, to be accurate if everybody is satisfied with the food they get (vegetarians, non-vegetarians). Moreover, I have been in assistance of sales and marketing director – helping with her daily tasks and schedules.
Therefore, I have to mention receiving the Leonardo and Obelske family fond grants. I have not got any payment from the company, so this money helped me to pay for my accommodation, living, travelling and other expenses. I have also saved some money, and could enjoy the rest of the summer and have some holiday after I had finished my internship.
The outcome of this internship in invaluable. I got more experience than I have had expected. I think that this tells enough about the results also mentioning that the company has been fully satisfied with me too.
