Housing in Aalborg
Denmark does not have a tradition for on-campus housing as they do in other parts of the world. UCN will do its best to help international students get ready for their stay in Aalborg. However, all incoming students are required to find their own accommodation.
Aalborg is a very popular destination for studying, and so it is important that you begin your search for accommodation as soon as you have decided to study in Denmark. The earlier you start your search, the higher the chances that you will find the right place for you.
Luckily, it is relatively easy to find housing in Aalborg. Prices are quite low compared to other big cities, e.g. Copenhagen. An average monthly rent varies between around EUR 270 and 470, depending on the area, the size of the room/flat, the facilities available and the general standard of the accommodation.
Apart from certain dormitories, most flats for rent in Denmark are offered unfurnished.
The Municipality of Aalborg offers students a temporary housing guarantee of three months, giving you time to find a place to live. To be covered by the housing guarantee, you must have registered with AKU-Aalborg, which assigns dormitories and youth housing.

Tips on finding accommodation
UCN co-operates with the dormitory UC House close to the city centre, which offers spacious, furnished rooms in a social environment with table tennis and a pool table in the common room. It is common for students who have either not been offered or are not interested in a dormitory or youth housing to share a flat. After some time in Aalborg, a lot of our international students also decide to do this.
We have learned that if e.g. 2 students register and apply together at AKU, then it is easier to receive an offer for 2 people sharing a flat. So this is something that you can think about and try to find another student with whom you can share a flat. If you do have any questions regarding this, please send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Students should expect to pay a deposit for renting a place, which they will get back at the end of renting provided that the place has been kept in good condition. Some places students are also requested to pay at least the first month’s rent. Therefore do count on extra expenses the first month to get settled.
UCN has an agreement with UC House which is situated just opposite the largest shopping area in Aalborg with more than 100 shops, in an area called Skalborg. You will find everything you need here from supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, etc.
UC House is less than 2 kilometres from our department at Sofiendalsvej, approx. 4 kilometres from our department at Hobrovej and about 5 kilometres from the city centre. Several buses connect UC House to the city centre.
We offer refurbished, spacious rooms with beds, computer tables and lamps. The centre of the house is the main living room with direct access to a closed garden with barbeques. There are large sofas in the living room for hanging out with your friends or for watching TV on the big flat screen. There is also table tennis and pool tables.
Furthermore, there is free high‐speed wireless internet. You will find that there are laundry facilities with washing machines and tumble dryers (which you have to pay for). There are also fully fitted kitchens with a place to sit down and enjoy a home cooked meal.
Most rooms have the size of 20 m2 and have private toilets. Prices range from DKK 2400 to DKK 4200 for a single room. Interested in sharing a room? If you get accommodation via a private landlord, and you are not sure if the rental agreement is OK or not, please contact the staff at the international office or send an e-mail to email@example.com. We are here to help you and we will look through the rental agreement in order to see if it looks OK or not. Unfortunately, there are some landlords who can be quite dishonest.
