Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

An individual assessment of your competences aims to achieve recognition for your knowledge, skills and competences so that you will not spend time learning something that you already know

What is PLAR?

PLAR stands for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition. Perhaps you never completed your upper secondary education? Perhaps you have gained knowledge, skills and competences by working as an unskilled worker/independently, through periods abroad, by taking classes or summer courses etc., being in positions of trust, doing volunteer work, or perhaps you have gained experience in an entirely different way.

An assessment of your competences could result in entirely new career opportunities. We would like to look at everything you have learned and achieved and determine whether it could be equated with the formal admission requirements for the study programme you wish to start on.

Responses and decisions

POSITIVE PLAR

The decision will only apply to the specific study programme and only at UCN. The assessment is valid for two years.

NEGATIVE PLAR

The decision is final. You cannot complain about the decision.

You will receive an answer to your PLAR application in the course of 2-4 weeks. An application for PLAR can be submitted any time of the year. However, the deadline for applications is 15 March for admission to the programme.

How to apply for an AP Degree programme using a PLAR

With a positive PLAR you can apply for admission to the study programme in quota 2 at optagelse.dk. The deadline is 15 March at 12 noon. You are to attach your PLAR as documentation together with the documentation that formed the basis of your PLAR application.

If your PLAR is being processed and has not been decided on before the 15 March deadline, you can still enter your application for admission to the study programme at optagelse.dk. However, you must upload your positive PLAR as documentation for your application at optagelse.dk not later than 15 March at 12 noon.

If you have applied for admission at optagelse.dk, but have subsequently received a negative PLAR, your application will be rejected.

How to request for PLAR

When requesting for a PLAR you can inform us of your personal data and fill in information about your education, courses, work experience, etc. It is very important, and it is your responsibility, to attach relevant documentation of all your experience and any educations you may have completed.

We will evaluate whether your total knowledge, skills and competences can be equated with the formal admission requirements for the study programme that you want to apply for admission to. The result will be either a positive or a negative PLAR.
