Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for top-up programmes

There is a different procedure for admission to top-up programmes using a PLAR than for the AP Degree programmes.

If you have not passed the 2-2½-year academy profession degree programme that grants admission to the top-up programme you are applying for admission to, you will be able to get an assessment of your overall competences.

If you have passed another academy profession degree programme, or if you have other relevant further university education, perhaps supplemented with relevant work experience, courses, stays abroad or voluntary work, we are willing to assess whether that combined can be considered equivalent to the formal admission requirements for the top-up study programme that you want to apply for admission to.

Response to your PLAR application

You will receive an answer to your application in the course of 2-4 weeks. An application for PLAR can be submitted any time of the year.

Due to processing time, we recommend that you apply for your PLAR no later than 4 weeks prior to the application deadline for the programme. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that your PLAR will be completed in time for application deadline.

The decision will only apply to the specific study programme and only at UCN. The assessment is valid for two years.

The decision is final. You cannot complain about the decision.

How to apply for a top-up programme using a PLAR

With a positive PLAR, you can apply for admission to the study programme.

Deadline for applications for non-EU/non-EEA applicants is 15 March at 12 noon.

Request for PLAR

When requesting for PLAR you can inform us of your personal data and fill in information about your youth education, your further education, courses, work experience, etc.

It is very important, and it is your responsibility, to attach relevant documentation of all your experience and any educations you may have completed.

We will evaluate whether your total knowledge, skills and competences can be equated with the formal admission requirements for the study programme that you want to apply for admission to. The result will be either a positive or a negative PLAR.
