Specific requirements

  • English corresponding to Danish B-level
  • Mathematics corresponding to Danish C-level

If you have a vocational education

English corresponding to Danish B-level and one of the following vocational educations or similar

  • Automatic and process engineering
  • Similar to the Danish ”Data- og kommunikationsuddannelsen” (office-based IT-systems and telecommunications)
  • Electrician Building automatics, installation techniques, control and regulation techniques
  • Electronics and low voltage

If you have a relevant business education

Specific requirements

  • English corresponding to Danish B-level
  • Math corresponding to Danish C-level


  • Completetion of a course similar to the Danish course that grants access to engineering programmes (Adgangseksamen til ingeniøruddannelserne)

Selection criteria

  • Work experience relevant to your choice of studies
  • Other work experience
  • Studies or work in a country other than your home country
  • Relevant previous education, parts of an education, classes and courses
  • Involvement in extra curricular activities or (unpaid) work in any type of organisation or association
  • Additional proficiency (e.g. parts of higher education level courses, summer school or other upper secondary level courses)
  • Your motivation letter

Admission requirements for applicants who hold an IB Diploma

To meet the entry requirements for UCN’s study programmes, you must hold a Diploma of the International Baccalaureate (i.e. you must have passed all your IB courses), and you must satisfy the specific entry requirements indicated below.

You must have minimum a total score of 24 IB points in order to apply for one of our English-taught programmes.

Which English tests does UCN accept?

We accept the following English tests:

IELTS (preferred)

Overall grade of 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the subtests


Internet-based test: minimum score of 85

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English

Pass at Grade C

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English

Pass at Grade C

Please note: If you are a non-EU citizen, you can only apply with either an IELTS or a TOEFL English test.
How can I compare the different English tests?

UCN has tried to compare the official sites of the well-known and appreciated Cambridge test, TOEFL and IELTS towards the European CEFR.

Is it required to provide documentary evidence of my English proficiency?

Applicants who have a degree from one of the Nordic countries, the Netherlands or Germany, or is a native speaker in English, will only have to provide documentary evidence of their English proficiency through their school level, and we will occasionally conduct Skype interviews with the applicants.

As a minimum, all applicants must speak English at a level that is equivalent to the Danish B-level.

In relation to applicants who have a degree from other countries than the Nordic countries, the Netherlands or Germany, UCN reserves the right to demand further documentary evidence of the applicant's English proficiency according to section 9 of the Danish Ministerial Order no. 1212 of 17 December 2012 on access, enrolment and leave etc.

This documentation must be made up of one of the English tests that we recognise and may also be supplemented by a video interview conducted via Skype for example.

Which English level corresponds to a Danish B-level?

As a minimum, all applicants must speak and write English at a level that is equivalent to the Danish B-level.
