Costs and practical information

  • Student accommodation typically costs around DKK 3,000–5,000 per month, depending on the type, size and location. Private accommodation is often more expensive.
  • Expect to pay a security deposit (typically three months' rent). It will often be refunded when you move out, provided the accommodation is left in good condition. The rental agreement will specify whether or not a refund is a possibility and specify the terms.
  • Some housing providers may also require payment of the first month's rent before you move in.
  • The rent may include heating and water, but this varies. Electricity, internet and other utilities may be charged separately, so always check what is included in your rental agreement.
  • Most rooms and apartments are unfurnished, so you may need to buy your own furniture. Affordable options can be found in second-hand shops, local Facebook groups and IKEA.
Important rental advice

Never pay rent or a deposit to a bank account outside Denmark. Legitimate landlords in Denmark will normally ask you to transfer your rent and deposit to a Danish bank account.

If you are unsure, contact UCN's International Office at international@ucn.dk before making any payment.
