Occupation and participation in everyday life
Our research is anchored in UCN’s Department of Occupational Therapy. In addition to the above, our research projects may also explore occupational science concepts or the relationship between e.g. occupation, health and quality of life.
We also conduct research related to developing, testing and evaluating complex occupational therapy interventions for various client groups.
We take an interest and possess experience in developing, translating and validating occupational therapy tools to enhance and support evidence-based occupational therapy practice. In addition, we perform research into enhancing the quality of the occupational therapy programme at UCN with the incorporation of research-based knowledge.
Our team of academics perform studies within occupational therapy and occupational science addressing the following themes:
- Occupation, health and quality of life as seen from the perspectives of occupational science, occupational therapy and a society
- Development, translation and validation of occupational therapy tools
- Development, testing and evaluation of complex occupational therapy interventions
- Development, testing, evaluation and implementation of assistive devices and technologies
- Development of the quality of occupational therapy education with the incorporation of research-based knowledge
We generate and translate knowledge into clinical practice for the benefit of citizens, the profession and society through education as well as research and development activities.
The occupational therapy programme is involved in a range of research and development projects. You can learn more about three of our projects here.
TRANSLATION AND VALIDATION OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TOOLS
The purpose of this project is psychometric testing of the Danish versions of the occupational therapy tools D-CAMQ and D-SAMO. In addition, the project explores the utility of these tools among occupational therapists, occupational therapy students and clients as well as whether focus on the client-therapist relationship contributes to promoting client-centred practice.
UNDERPINNING RELATIONS BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE
This project aims to identify and prioritise ideas for enhancing the relationship between theory and practice in the occupational therapy programme. Students, clinical supervisors, lecturers and senior lecturers contribute through a shared method in which ideas are organised into central themes and translated into a conceptual model that underlines the importance of collaboration. The results are discussed and actively used in the continued work to develop and qualify the occupational therapy programme.
EVALUATION OF WELL-BEING AND DEVELOPMENT DIALOGUES
This project investigates occupational therapy students’ perspectives on well-being and development dialogues (WDD). WDD have been implemented as a pedagogical initiative aimed at supporting students’ learning processes, promoting reflection on their own development, and providing supervisors with insight into students’ well-being and needs. The project is conducted as a questionnaire-based study using data from multiple student cohorts. The results are intended to contribute to the development of the study programme and to form the basis for scientific publication.
